Gazprom has sent Naftogaz a bill for USD 2,5 billion for failure of the latter to purchase gas in the third quarter of 2015 under the 2009 contract, reports Gazprom’s press service.

“Under the terms of the current contract signed between Gazprom and Naftogaz, the latter had to buy a minimum annual amount of gas. The minimum annual amount of gas in the third quarter of 2015 totalled 10,458 billion cubic meters. Given this, as well as the volume of gas delivered to Ukraine by Gazprom, Naftogaz has been sent a bill for USD 2,5 billion,” reads the statement

The Russian gas monopoly expects the bill to be settled within 10 days.

“Ukraine virtually ceased to purchase Russian gas in the third quarter of 2015, which means that there was no deal on non-applicability of the ‘take or pay’ clause throughout this period,” said Alexey Miller, Gazprom CEO.
