A new light rail line to Sykhiv residential district in Lviv was launched due to the financial support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Union and the German Federal Ministry of Environment, according to TUİD.

Turkish construction company Onur İnşaat was also directly involved in the implementation of the project. Therefore, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Turkey to Ukraine Yönet Can Tezel, as well as Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli attended the ceremony of opening the tram line.

It is the first light rail line built in the last 30 years. According to preliminary calculations, 48 thousand residents of the city will use the tram line.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has already invested EUR 12 billion in 369 different projects in Ukraine since 1993. Thus, the bank has become the largest international financial investor in the country.
