A church was seized in the French city of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray (Normandy) today afternoon.

The BBC reports that two men armed with knives, broke into the church through the back door and took the priest and parishioners hostages. It is known that the invaders cut the priest's throat with a knife. Reportedly there were from four to six people as hostages and there is no information about their injuries or deaths yet. 

The attackers were killed during the police operation, according to DW. The city center is blocked by the police. The local media broadcasts show that the police closed the roads around the church. Also the ambulances are stationed in the area. French President Francois Hollande and the Head of Internal Ministry Bernard Cazeneuve went to the scene.

The motives of the attackers remain unclear. Meanwhile, there have been several major attacks in France recently.
