The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia Maria Zakharova explained the smoke over the Russian Consulate in San Francisco with "conservation of the building."
“In this connection, windows can be closed, curtains can be lowered, lights should turned off, water may be blown down, doors should be closed, garbage can be thrown off, heating devices switched off, life support systems switched on and much more,” Zaharova wrote on her Facebook page.
She also expressed perplexity at the attention that the American media gave to this incident.
“Immediately photo reports were prepared about the "emergency situation", and, as the top of sadism, fire security was called. Just in case, if Russians need help: they still had a couple of hours left to clear out the premises,” she wrote.
Earlier, the media reported that heavy black smoke was pouring from the pipe of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in San Francisco. The fire brigade was called, but they were not allowed inside. People who left the Consulate General said that the embassy staff burned some objects in the fireplace.
Before that, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the US special services are preparing to conduct a search on September 2 in the building of the Consulate General.
According to Foreign Policy, the papers were also burned at the Russian Trade Mission in Washington. A fire is kindled in the backyard of the Russian Chambers of Commerce in Washington. A few hours earlier, the worker had removed the cameras installed on the fence around the building.
