The Security Service of Ukraine together with the Prosecutor's Office detained a group of offenders who were engaged in the sale of arms and ammunition illegally exported from the area of the antiterrorist operation, "Tyzden" publication reported referring to the SBU press service.
Allegedly, one of the group's members was detained in the Odesa region while attempting to sell a Kalashnikov assault rifle with cartridges.
“During the simultaneous searches at the place of residence of malefactors in the cities of Odesa, Khmelnytsky and Chernivtsi, law enforcement officers discovered a large arsenal of weapons and ammunition stolen from military arsenals. Special servicemen seized the Kalashnikov assault rifle, three Mosin rifles, two RPG-18 rifles, an automatic nozzle, a MMG VM rifle, a 32 mm rifle, two Makarov and TT pistols, a Fort-12M pistol with a silencer, a РМ-63 RAK Submachine gun,” the SBU reports.
As a follow up to the detention, criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons). suspicion have already been brought to five members of the criminal group.
Earlier, on May 5, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation stated that a citizen of Ukraine engaged in the sale of arms, ammunition and explosives in Russia was detained in Krasnodar. The quantity of the confiscated weapons was not specified.
