US Congressman Marcy Kaptur called on Russia to release Ukrainian political prisoners, including Oleg Sentsov.
According to the Facebook page of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States, the politician noted that the health of the Ukrainian filmmaker is rapidly deteriorating.
“I remain deeply troubled by the arrest and detainment of Crimean filmmaker, Oleg Sentsov by Russian authorities. Oleg took up the cause of liberty for Ukraine, speaking out against Russian aggression and its illegal occupation of Crimea. Tragically, over 75 days have now passed since Oleg begun his hunger strike in a Siberian prison, and his health is rapidly deteriorating. It is clear that the enemy of liberty has little regard for human rights, and seeks to globally undermine vital democratic values. I join the international community in calling on Putin to immediately and unconditionally release Oleg Sentsov, and all other Ukrainian political prisoners," Kaptur said.
It is worth noting that, Kaptur is the author of the bill "On the imposing sanctions against the Russian Federation in order to provide additional assistance to Ukraine, as well as for other purposes." The politician is also co-Chair of the Congressional Ukrainian Caucus of the United States - an organization that represents the Ukrainian community of America and is a member of the World Congress of Ukrainians.
QHA reported that, the Mayor's Office of the 4th District in Paris held an action in support of the Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov. Deputy Mayor of Paris Patrick Klugman noted that such actions will take place until Sentsov is released.
Previously, Poland, the United States and several other countries initiated creation of an international declaration demanding the release of Oleg Sentsov. The declaration says that Sentsov is starving for more than two months, and Moscow does not respond to international appeals.
