September 19, at the event dedicated to Veteran Day, the Head of General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces Hulusi Akar said that Turkey acts in Syria in accordance with its right to self-defense, reported the AA agency.
In his speech, Akar commented on the statements of the International community about Turkey to claim to the territorial integrity of Syria due to military operation "Euphrates Shield":
“Turkey does not claim to foreign lands. We only intend to ensure the safety of our own country, using our right to self-defense. Operation "Euphrates Shield" began short after the military coup attempt in Turkey on July 15. It is vital to protect the borders and provide security to the citizens of Turkey and neighboring countries.
Hulusi Akar said that the struggle of the Turkish Armed Forces, Law Enforcement agencies and Security Forces will continue until the complete eradication of terrorism throughout the country.
The "Euphrates Shield" is a joint military operation carried out by the special operation groups with the Turkish Armed Forces and the Air Forces of the international coalition against ISIL terrorist organization in Syria, which started in the early morning of August, 24. The main objectives of the offensive are to clear the frontier regions from IS terrorists, ramp up the border security, provide support for the territorial integrity in Syria, as well as to prevent the creation of so-called "Kurdish corridor” on the southern border.
