The Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and US Vice President Joe Biden raised the issue of extradition of the leader of the FETÖ terrorist organization Fetullah Gulen in the course of a personal meeting in the framework of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, reported the Turkey’s Minister of Justice Bekir Bozdag.

We expect the second important step – that is to detain Gülen during the investigation. I hope this decision will not be delayed, but taken in the near future, said Bozdag.

Since the failed military coup on July 15, Ankara has sent to the United States four packages of documents proving Fethullah Gulen’s involvement in the organization of the coup. September, 10 Turkey also sent a request for the immediate arrest of the FETÖ leader in a run of the investigation.

The Minister of Justice said that in accordance with paragraph №10 of the Agreement on extradition, Turkey has the right to request a temporary detention of the offender prior to a package of his transfer documents being obtained.

Bekir Bozdag summed up that Gülen continues to lead the terrorist organization FETÖ from Pennsylvania (USA), where he currently lives.

The night of July, 15- 16 an attempted military coup was committed in Turkey. The coup was plotted and organized by Fethullah Gülen, who currently lives in Pennsylvania (USA). Turkey asked the United States to extradite Fetullaha Gulen and lodged evidence proving FETÖ’s involvement in the coup.
