Speaker of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov told foreign students about the Russian modern politics against the indigenous people of Crimea. The meeting held in Kyiv-Mohylanska Academy was attended by students from Poland, Armenia, France, Italy, Spain and other European countries.

“I must say that nowadays in Crimea, the fear has penetrated into every sphere of life of the Crimean Tatars. Russia is doing every possible thing to radicalize the Crimean Tatars, and to set them to the path of terror. Thus, the Russian authorities have resorted to their favorite practices, proven in the Caucasus. They kidnap our boys, and then we find them dead. In addition, tens of innocent Crimean Tatars are now in Russian prisons,” he said.

The politician reminded that the repression against the Crimean Tatars is not a new phenomenon in Russian politics, but an established practice:

“Since the first Russian capture of the Crimea in 1783 came streak for the Crimean Tatars. Over the next hundred and fifty years, our people have become a minority in their own land, and many were forced to leave their homeland. But the most terrible blow was the deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944, when about a half of those who were forcibly evicted from their homes, perished for various reasons.”

Earlier, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted two resolutions with the amendments proposed by the Ukrainian delegates. The resolutions imply the extension of sanctions against Russia to restore full sovereignty of Ukraine, condemnation of the illegal elections in Crimea as well as the prohibition of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.

At the Assembly session in Strasbourg, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, MP of Ukraine and The Presidential Commissioner of Ukraine for the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev has predicted that the Russian Federation ignores another PACE resolution regarding human rights violations in the occupied territories of Donbas and Crimea.
