The EU will not recognize the results of the Russian presidential elections in the occupied Crimea, which will be held on March 18, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini stated during a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko in Kyiv today, on March 12.

The EU representative noted that it is very important for the European Union that her visit to Ukraine takes place just a few days before the fourth anniversary of the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia.

"We also do not recognize the elections that will be held in the Crimea, and we will continue sanctions in this regard," Mogherini said.

The EU representative also called for respect for all residents of the occupied Ukrainian peninsula and demanded the release of all people detained there illegally.

Earlier, Federica Mogherini said that the Russian gas company Gazprom should fully implement its obligations under the gas contracts.
