Restoring European stability with continued occupation of Crimea by Russia is impossible, Ukraine's Ambassador to France Oleh Shamshur said.
According to him, in order to create the prerequisites for a new security architecture in Europe, Crimea's de-occupation and the cessation of Russian aggression in the east of Ukraine are needed.
“As a result of Russian aggression, the European security system is not just compromised, it is destroyed. The necessary prerequisite for the creation of a new security architecture is the de-occupation of the Crimea, the cessation of the war unleashed by Russia against our state.”
Shamshur noted that the first "signal" of a breach in security of Europe was the Russian aggression against Georgia in 2008.
“Certainly, the "first bell" was aggression against Georgia. What happened to the Crimea, to Ukraine, it's not a "bell", it's a "tocsin", the diplomat said.
Earlier, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian during a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Kyiv said that France does not recognize the occupation of the Crimea by Russia.
Previously, former President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko said that the occupation of the Crimea and armed aggression in the Donbas is already the 24th war of Russia against Ukraine. According to him, over the past 50 years, there has been no such security situation in Eastern Europe. Yushchenko noted that modern Russia is involved in 6 conflicts in Eastern Europe, including Nagorno-Karabakh and the war in the Donbas.
