July 21, the 12th meeting of the Executive Committee of the World Congress of the Crimean Tatars (WCCT) was held in Kyiv. According to the QHA correspondent, at the beginning of the event, the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, the Head of the WCCT Refat Chubarov told about the works the congress carried out and meetings held since the last session that took place on February 10.
Chubarov noted that 12 from 24 members of the board of the WCCT took part in the meeting of the Committee. Two of the participants took part in the work of the Congress through video communication.
The participants of the Executive Committee stated their intention to discuss a draft law on the studying of native languages in Russian schools, which presumes that studying of the national language in the autonomous republics and regions of Russia is non-compulsory, which is currently applied to the temporary occupied Crimean peninsula as well.
According to Chubarov, a large number of Turkic people reside on the territory of the Russian Federation, and the bill will affect their national and cultural rights.
One of the declared topics in the work of the Executive Committee of the WCCT was the situation in Uzbekistan, in particular, the coming to power of a new government in the country. The participants of the event planed to discuss the situation of the Crimean Tatars in Uzbekistan. Refat Chubarov noted that the discussion of this topic was his personal initiative.
The focus of the Executive Committee was the issue of helping families of political prisoners.
The participants of the Congress Executive Committee stated that they would touch upon the issues of amending the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the creation of national and territorial autonomy of the Crimean Tatars, problems of the Crimean Tatar media, and the construction of new mosques in Genichesk.
After the announcement of the agenda members of the board voted for it. The Head of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Aider Rustemov, made a prayer and the work of the Executive Committee of the WCCT began.
