German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, along with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, arrived in the city of Mariupol, Donetsk region.
According to the Ukrainian minister, meetings with OSCE observers and local residents are planned as part of the visit.
"Going to the line of demarcation," Klimkin informed.
The press service of the president reported, that Maas first arrived in Ukraine on a working visit. On the same day he met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. Poroshenko highly appreciated the decision of Maas to visit the Donbas in order to personally observe the situation that has developed as a result of Russian aggression.
The sides stressed the importance of the early deployment of a peacekeeping mission under the aegis of the United Nations, which will create favorable conditions for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Earlier, Heiko Maas said that anti-Russian sanctions will be lifted as soon as Russia fulfills its international obligations.
