The British Foreign Office on its Twitter page named five reasons for the illegality of the so-called referendum in the occupied Crimea, held four years ago.

According to London, the "referendum" violated the Constitution of Ukraine and was declared illegal by the OSCE and the G7. Also, the UK indicates that the pro-Russian propaganda dominated, when the Ukrainian media were closed.

Also, diplomats noted that the so-called "voting" was prepared in 20 days, which did not provide an opportunity for public discussion.

“Russian troops had seized the key parts of the peninsula, with citizens casting vote under the watchful gaze of Russia’s "little green men". No credible observers were present to assess the conduct of the referendum,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

Earlier, the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, the Presidential Commissioner of Ukraine for Crimean Tatar People's Affairs, People's Deputy Mustafa Dzhemilev said that according to the Crimean Federal Security Service, 34.2% of the inhabitants of the peninsula took part in the so-called "referendum" in the Crimea.
