Ukraine will not conduct any direct negotiations with the militants of "LPR" and "DPR" and will not compromise on the issue of the mandate of the future peacekeeping mission for Donbas, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin stated on the air of the Ukrainian television channel Pryamoi on Friday night, December 15, during live broadcast from New York.
At an annual press conference on Thursday, December 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that "the Russian Federation does not mind putting the situation in Donbas under international control, but this should be decided only by direct negotiations between the parties."
He also said earlier that peacekeepers should be located on the line of demarcation in the Donbas and on no other territories. Kyiv believes though, that the UN mission should have a broader mandate and be deployed throughout the Donbas region right up to the border with Russia.
“Compromises may be found in politics and diplomacy, but not in the principle, which affects the mandate of the mission and the future of the Donbas.”
The minister noted that the very idea of the possibility of negotiating with the Moscow-controlled terrorists in ORDLO is absurd.
“In general, the very idea that someone will hold talks with those who Russia put to power in the Donbas in 2014 by fake elections, is schizophrenic. And the recent events in Luhansk vividly show that there are no leaders, militia, or anybody like Russia calls them, by definition. There are simply gangs, controlled by various Russian special services, Russian military. Therefore, nothing is independent there by definition, as well as nobody one can talk there with," he stressed.
The Foreign Minister stressed that Ukraine will never take steps that can be interpreted as if the war in the Donbas is an internal conflict.
“There is no one to talk to in the occupied Donbas. All the "puppeteers", of course, are in Moscow,” he summed up.
The minister further noted that he would meet with the UN Secretary General, and discuss peacekeepers issue among the other ones.
QHA reported that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin, previously informed that he would soon discuss with the UN Secretary General António Guterres the issue of the introduction of the UN peacekeeping mission to the Donbas.
