During the briefing on December 13, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin stated that he will soon discuss the issue of the introduction of a UN peacekeeping mission to the Donbas with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

“Tomorrow I am leaving to New York, where I will have a meeting with the UN Secretary General. Yet, Russia categorically rejects the mission that would bring peace to the Donbas, which means the exit of Russia, and the introduction of the international component in the Donbas. Therefore, the question is not the time, but the sense," he said.

Klimkin went on saying that Ukraine, the US and the EU have some more ideas about the pressure on Russia.

Earlier, Pavlo Klimkin met with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during a meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers in Vienna. The parties discussed the issue of deployment of UN peacekeepers in the Donbas.

Previously, the US administration stated that in the event of deployment of UN peacekeepers in eastern Ukraine, the mission should not include Russian citizens. The mission should move freely throughout the Donbas and control only the Ukrainian side of the border with the Russian Federation.
