US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker said in an BBC interview that Washington was actively reviewing the issue whether to send weapons to Ukraine, “Gordon” reported.

“Defensive weapons, ones that would allow Ukraine to defend itself, and to take out tanks for example, would actually to help" to stop Russia threatening Ukraine”, Mr. Volker said in a BBC interview.

He believes that this step will not be a provocation in any way. But Volker also added that success in establishing peace in eastern Ukraine would require “a new strategic dialogue with Russia”.

Earlier, the US Department of State appointed the former US Ambassador to NATO Kurt Volker as the Special Representative for Negotiations in Ukraine Ukraine on July 7.
