The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) will hold a meeting on the protection of Ukraine's interests in the Azov Sea. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko made a corresponding statement during a speech at a meeting of heads of foreign diplomatic institutions.
“I instructed to prepare a relevant NSDC session on this issue and I ask the Foreign Ministry to submit their proposals as soon as possible, because Moscow's unlawful and insidious actions in this region should not and will not go unpunished without a corresponding international reaction,” the Head of Ukrainian state said.
He noted that at the moment the situation that has developed in the Sea of Azov is unacceptable.
“I'm waiting for proposals to ensure our interests in the water area of the Azov Sea. I am not going to put up with this and I am convinced that the situation that is developing now is absolutely unacceptable.”
Earlier, NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov said that Russia could launch a military and economic blockade of the Azov coast of Ukraine. According to Turchinov, Russia regards the Azov-Black Sea region as an important springboard for its further expansion.
