NATO condemns the opening of the Crimean bridge across the Kerch Strait in the Russian-occupied peninsula, according to the message of the press service of the North Atlantic Alliance of May 16.

"Crimea is part of Ukraine and this bridge represents another violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity," NATO deputy spokesman Piers Cazalet said in a statement.

Earlier, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan stated that Russia will have to compensate for the losses of Ukraine caused by the construction of the Kerch bridge. He stressed that Ukraine had sent relevant documents to international authorities.

The Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Boris Babin believes that the Kerch bridge will contribute to the militarization of the Crimea. According to Babin, the bridge will create prerequisites for a more active use of the peninsula as a springboard for Russian aggression against Ukraine, other European countries and the Mediterranean and Black Sea region.

QHA reported that May 15 Russian president Vladimir Putin solemnly opened the Crimean bridge.
