A petition calling for cutting the number of MPs at the Verkhovna Rada to 100 has garnered the required minimum of 25, 000 signatures for it to be considered by the President.

As of the morning of October 16, 25,489 Ukrainian citizens have signed the petition posted on the Ukrainian President’s website.

“The current number of MPs at the Parliament is leftover from the times Ukraine was under Soviet occupation. There are 450 MPs at the Russian Parliament as well. We request that the number of hired managers, aka deputies-dependents, be cut to save funds and lessen the economic burden of their upkeep on Ukrainians,” says the petition.

The petition, to be submitted for the President’s consideration within three days, is to be answered by the President within 10 days.
