President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed the law “On Amendments to Annex 2 to the Law of Ukraine “On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2018”. This was reported in the press service of the Ukrainian Head of state.
According to the law, the state will pay compensation to the families of Ukrainian political prisoners, as well as the Ukrainian military detained by illegal armed groups in the Donbas.
At the same time, the name of the budget program is also changed to the new edition: “Measures to protect and ensure the rights and interests, social rehabilitation of persons deprived of personal liberty by illegal armed groups, the occupation administration and / or authorities of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and the Russian Federation in connection with the public or political activities of these individuals, as well as support for these individuals and their family members, including compensation for losses associated with their visiting, the provision of legal aid, medical and social services to such persons and their family members, and the payment of state scholarships named after Levko Lukyanenko ”.
The press service noted that such amendments to the law will expand the use of funds from the state budget for the rehabilitation and social assistance to the families of political prisoners and the military illegally detained in the ORDLO.
In late September, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported a bill that allows providing social assistance to political prisoners and their families.
Earlier, the author of the bill, the first vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Irina Gerashchenko, stated that in 2018 96 million hryvnias were allocated for payments to the families of political prisoners. However, before the President signed this law, the Cabinet of Ministers could not use the funds, since, according to Gerashchenko, “this line was incorrectly defined in the budget”.
On July 31, the Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons of Ukraine Vadim Chernysh said that the families of Kremlin prisoners would receive compensation payments from the government. According to him, it was to start in August.
