President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in his message on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the First Qurultay of Crimean Tatar people informed about the work already begun over the creation of Crimean Tatar national autonomy.
According to the President, national autonomy should be part of a sovereign and independent Ukrainian state.
QHA reported that Poroshenko also expected the working group of the Constitutional Commission to present the developed and agreed amendments and additions to Section X of the Constitution of Ukraine. He further stressed that work on the creation of Crimean Tatar national autonomy in Crimea has already started.
Earlier, the Leonid Kravchuk, the first Ukrainian President also supported the idea of creating a national Crimean Tatar autonomy. He expressed the following idea during the interview after open discussion "December 1, 1991, the Ukrainian referendum: lessons of history for the future".
“I support the idea that the Crimean Tatar autonomy should be national. We have Crimean Tatars, indigenous people who live there. They must have their national autonomy. The World will understand and, I believe, will support this decision," Kravchuk informed.
According to Refat Chubarov, the Chairman of the Mejlis, the working group on changes in the status of the Crimea will provide the Constitutional Commission in the near future with a holistic text of the amendments and additions to the Article 10 of the Constitution of Ukraine.
