President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko thanked the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his efforts in the release of the Deputy Chairmen of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiyhoz and Ilmi Umerov.
“I am glad to report that Akhtem Chiyhoz and Ilmi Umerov are finally free. Thanks to the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his efforts in release of our heroes, as we agreed in New York and Kyiv," Poroshenko wrote on his Facebook page.
The guarantor of the Ukrainian state further noted that the issue of the release of Ukrainian citizens detained by the Russian Federation will remain among the priorities during his talks with world leaders.
"The joint struggle for the liberation of all Ukrainian citizens and their returning to their home continues," Poroshenko wrote.
Earlier, the Deputy Chairmen of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz and Ilmi Umerov, convicted in the occupied Crimea, were transferred to Turkey. First they were brought to Simferopol, and then sent to Anapa by plane.
QHA sources report that they have already landed in Anapa and transferred to the Turkish side. The Russian plane that delivered them flew back.

September 27, the Simferopol district "court" convicted the Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Ilmi Umerov. The occupying court found him guilty of separatism under article 280.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Public calls for actions aimed at violating the territorial integrity of the Russian Federation) and sentenced him to 2 years in a colony-settlement and 2 years of a ban on public activities.
