According to U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt, the resignation of Viktor Shokin is an important step towards overcoming corruption in Ukraine.

“Ukraine faces the challenge of overcoming corruption. Therefore, today’s action in Parliament, which we welcome, on the dismissal of the discredited Attorney General, such important,” BBC Ukraine cites Geoffrey Pyatt as saying during ‘The US to Ukraine: Partner, Patron, or Ally?’ debate.

Pyatt noted that it is very important to find a new attorney General, who must be an independent professional to enjoy the support of civil society in Ukraine.
