Correspondent of the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform Roman Sushchenko, illegally arrested in Moscow, turned 49 today.

It is the second birthday that the journalist "marks" in the detention center Lefortovo in Moscow.

Roman Sushchenko was congratulated on the network by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to France Oleg Shamshur.

“We are all your friends in Paris - we congratulate you on your birthday. We wish you health, luck and lots of rewards. We are absolutely sure that very soon the black mist of lies will dissipate, and you will go free," he said in his video message.

The permanent representative of Ukraine to the Council of Europe Dmitry Kuleba also recorded his congratulations in Strasbourg.

“I sincerely congratulate you on your birthday. I'm very annoyed that you are marking this day behind bars in Russia. In fact, in the status of a political prisoner. But believe me, I, and my colleagues here in Strasbourg, and colleagues in Kyiv, in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - we are working hard to get you back to your family, in order to return to Ukraine, as well as to Paris," he noted.

Kuleba satated that, despite the unlawful detention, Roman Sushchenko is still part of the staff of Ukrinform.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Ukraine joined the congratulations. Speaker of the Foreign Ministry Mariana Betsa wrote that the department continues to struggle for the release of the journalist on her Twitter page.

“Roman, congratulations on your birthday! We wish you fortitude! The walls will collapse! We believe in your freedom and are fighting for it.”

The Chargé d'Affaires of Ukraine in the Russian Federation and embassy staff also congratulated Sushchenko.

QHA reported that family and friends of the Ukrinform correspondent Roman Sushchenko, who was illegally arrested in Moscow, placed a congratulatory banner in front of the Russian embassy in Kyiv in honor of his birthday.

The daughter of journalist Julia Sushchenko informed on her Facebook page, that this is a kind of reminder to the Russian government saying "we will not surrender in the struggle for the liberation of our Roman Sushchenko."
