Russia’s Federation Council supports a ban on Russian tourists’ flying to Turkey and Tunisia, reports RIA Novosti citing Igor Morozov, a member of the Federation Council’s Committee for International Affairs. According to him, security in these countries ‘leaves much to be desired’, while the airports of Cairo, Alexandria and Sharm El Sheikh are in an appalling condition.

“By banning flights to Tunisia and Turkey and advising Russian tourists against flying there, the Russian government is trying to get the governments of these countries to address serious security issues at the airports, hotels and major tourist attractions there,” says Morozov.

Morozov believes the government should come up with new tourist destinations and develop tourist infrastructure in Crimea and the Caucasus

“The government stands a real chance of making Russian resorts attractive to our tourists and it just cannot afford to lose it,” says Morozov.
