WASHINGTON (QHA) -

Russia's actions in the Sea of Azov are an attempt to destabilize Ukraine, the US State Department noted.

The foreign policy department stressed that the US continues to support Ukraine's sovereignty.

“We consider Russia's obstacles to international shipping in the Sea of Azov as another example of Russia's attempts to destabilize Ukraine. The U.S. continues to support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders. We also call on Russia to stop creating obstacles to international shipping in the Sea of Azov," the US Department of State noted.

Earlier, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stated that Russia intends to start a military and economic blockade of the Azov coast of Ukraine. According to him, the Russian Federation regards the Azov-Black Sea region as an important springboard for its further expansion.

In turn, the Head of the Border Guard Service of Ukraine Petro Tsigikal said that Russia cannot deploy heavy vessels into the Sea of Azov, since the depth does not allow it.
