American sanctions will be applied in relation to Russia until Crimea remains an annexed territory, and Russian troops are in Donbas, Rex Tillerson announced during his speech at the 24th meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna.

“We will never accept Russia’s occupation and attempted annexation of Crimea. Sanctions would remain in place until Russia returns full control of the peninsula to Ukraine,” Tillerson stated.

The US Secretary of State pointed out that the OSCE mission to the Donbas remains an extremely important tool, primarily for civilians located near the contact line.

“As for the situation in eastern Ukraine, we support our Western partners, sanctions would remain in place until Russia withdraws its forces from the Donbas in accordance with Minsk agreements.”

Reportedly, Rex Tillerson also informed that US sanctions were aimed at punishing Russia for the annexation of Crimea and interference in the situation in Ukraine.

He emphasized that sanctions would remain until Russia cancels the acts which avoked them.
