US senators called on President Donald Trump to prioritize meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko before meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 conference in July.

The corresponding appeal was made in an open letter of bipartisan group of US senators to Trump, which is published on the official page of Senator Robert Portman.

Senators ask Trump "to prioritize meeting foreign leaders representing countries with whom we share historical ties, democratic values, and mutual interests.”

They note the concern over the continuing military aggression of Russia in eastern Ukraine and the occupation of the Crimea. The senators pointed out that the destabilizing influence of Russia led to the death of about 10,000 people, as well as to the fact that more than 20,000 people were injured and almost 2 million people became internally displaced.
