One of the key tasks for Ukraine is to establish and develop cooperation with such important countries as Turkey, the Ukrainian Ambassador in Ankara Andrey Sibiga told the Anadolu Agency.
He recalled that in 2017 marks the 26th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Turkey and Ukraine.

“Relations with Turkey were established immediately after Ukraine gained independence. Our countries are real partners. In 2017, we reached a new level in the strategic partnership, and the political dialogue between the two countries has become more intensive," Sibiga stated.

The Ambassador noted that no political problems exist between Kyiv and Ankara, and relations between the two countries are based on a mutually beneficial basis.

According to the diplomat, by the end of 2016 the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to four billion dollars, and from January to May this year it reached 4.5 billion dollars.

"For the first time in three years, the trade turnover between Turkey and Ukraine has grown by 22 percent," Sibiga noted.

The Ambassador believes that the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council of Turkey-Ukraine, founded in 2011, played an important role in the development of bilateral relations.
The diplomat also mentioned that in 2011 the visa regime between Turkey and Ukraine was simplified, and since 2014 citizens of both countries can make bilateral visits without obtaining visas.

“Last year, more than one million Ukrainian tourists visited Turkey. We expect that this year this figure will increase by 30-50 percent. This indicator depends on the tourist regions. For example, among the tourists who rested in Antalya, 33% growth has been observed since the beginning of this year," Sibiga said.

Earlier, on August 15, a conference on assessing investment and commercial opportunities in Turkey and Ukraine was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Turkish city of Kocaeli. During the conference, Turkey was called for more active cooperation with Ukraine.
