The newly appointed Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey, Andrei Sibiga met with representatives of the Crimean Tatar Diaspora Platform, the Culture Society General Center and mutual aid of Crimean Tatars World Congress of the Crimean Tatars and the Society of Turkish-Ukrainian friendship, according to Facebook of the Ukrainian diplomatic mission in Turkey.

First of all, Andrew Sibiga thanked the representatives of the Crimean Tatars for ongoing productive interaction of the diaspora with Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian ambassador, Ukraine continues to make every effort to protect the citizens' rights in the illegally occupied territory of Crimea, as well as to guarantee the rights of the Crimean Tatar people. Andrew Sibiga called for continued active cooperation in defense of common interests.

The representatives of the Crimean Tatar people once again stressed that they support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and pointed to the importance of the Ukrainian authorities’ efforts to protect the interests of the Crimean Tatars. In the future, according to representatives of derneks and WCCT, cooperation between the parties will continue in order to achieve the common values of freedom and the rule of law for strengthening of friendship and mutually beneficial relations between the Crimean Tatar, Turkish and Ukrainian people.

Earlier, Andrey Sibiga also met with the Ukrainian Diaspora in Istanbul to discuss a wide range of issues on organized cooperation of the Embassy and the Ukraine's Consulate General with the Ukrainian diaspora in the Turkish metropolis.

The term of office of the previous Ambassador of Ukraine in Turkey Sergei Korsunski expired in August 2016. Korsunski had held this position since July 2008.

In late August, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko appointed Andrei Sibiga as an ambassador to Turkey. Prior to this appointment, Andrew Sibiga held the position of Director of the Consular Department of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

Andrew Sibiga was born in 1975 in Zborov, Ternopil region. He graduated from Lviv State University named after Ivan Franko. A specialist in international relations, English language translator and a lawyer. He started his diplomat career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in 1997. Sibiga worked abroad at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Poland.
