The International Court of Justice of the United Nations has agreed to introduce restrictive measures for Russia over the violation of the Convention on racial discrimination for the protection of national minorities in the annexed Crimea, "European Pravda" publication reported referring to the court decision announced by its Head Ronnie Abraham.

“To abstain from restrictions with respect to Crimean Tatars on representation of their interests, including the resumption of activities of the Mejlis. Ensure the resumption of education in the Ukrainian language.”

At the same time, the court refused to take temporary measures against the Russian Federation for violating the convention on prohibiting the financing of terrorism. According to the court, Ukraine has not proven that the temporary measures imposed would stop the damage.

Previously, the International Court of Justice recognized its jurisdiction over the specified suit.
Earlier, QHA reported that Ukraine filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice on January 16, 2017 to bring the Russian Federation to justice over violating the International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The materials of the case include the catastrophe of the Malaysian Boeing, the bombardment of residential areas in Mariupol, Kramatorsk, Volnovaha, terrorist attacks in Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities, which the Russian Federation is accused of. Separately, questions were raised regarding violations of the rights of Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians in the occupied Crimea.

Preliminary hearings were held March 6-9 in the Hague. At these hearings, Russian stood out with illogical statements, claiming that the weapons pro-Russian militants use in the Donbas, were allegedly found in Ukrainian mines. Given the fact that the presence of exclusively Russian weapons in the occupied Donbas has been repeatedly recorded over almost three years of the war, such statements gave rise to numerous ridicule and caricatures in social networks.

It should be noted that the mission of the SMM OSCE has repeatedly recorded weapons in the Russian-occupied part of the Donbas, which is used by the Russian armed forces only, like the jamming system R-330 "Zhitel", the flamethrower system "Buratino", the flamethrower "Shmel", the portable MLRS "Grad-P", and Orlan-10 UAV.

As for the facts of harassment of Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians in the Crimea, they are systematically recorded by human rights defenders and state bodies of Ukraine. Therefore, during the hearings in the UN court, the Ukrainian side had the opportunity to reasonably refute the theses of the Russian Federation.
