The Senate Committee on Foreign Relations adopted a bipartisan resolution condemning the illegal annexation of the Crimea by Russia. The resolution was published on the Committee's website.

The document says that the Crimea is part of Ukraine and the US should reject all attempts to change this status, the demographic composition and the political nature of the Crimea.

The committee urged the US government "to declare it the foreign policy of the United States to never recognize the illegal annexation of the Crimea by the Russian Federation, similar to the 1940 Welles Declaration in which the USA refused to recognize the Soviet annexation of the Baltic States."

The document also welcomes US sanctions against Russia on the Crimea and calls on the US government to encourage the EU to new sanctions.

The resolution calls on the US, together with the EU, NATO and the international community, to prioritize efforts to prevent further consolidation of the occupation authorities in the Crimea.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a statement entitled "Crimea Declaration" stressed that the United States will support the policy of not recognizing the annexation of Crimea by Russia until the restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity. The US Secretary of State urged Russia to "end the occupation."

QHA reported that the European Union supports the US position on the non-recognition of the annexation of the Crimea.

Great Britain, Germany, Poland also supported the Pompeo’s Declaration on Crimea.
