In July 2017, Tverskoy District Court of Moscow sentenced Stanislav Zimovets to 2.5 years in prison. According to the Russian investigation, on March 26, 2017, during a protest in the Russian capital, he threw a piece of brick toward the riot police.
Zimovets allegedly hit an OMON officer in the back.
At first Zimovets pleaded guilty, but later refused to testify. He noted that he had taken a rally for the festivities. Zimovets explained his actions by coincidence, adding that he threw a brick when he saw mass detentions. At the same time, he noted that he was not aiming anyone intentionally.
Earlier, the US Embassy in Ukraine expressed support for the political prisoner, Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov and called for his release.

She stressed that the option of exchanging Oleg Sentsov for the director of Russian information agency RIA Novosti Ukraina Kiril Vyshinsky, who was detained in Kyiv on suspicion of state treason, is possible.
