Bakhchisaray office of Mejlis plans to conduct a rally to support Akhtem Chiygoz—deputy head of Mejlis of Crimean Tatar people who was detained Jan 29 on suspicion of organizing “mass disorder”.

Relevant decision was made during the Mejlis session, Bakhchisaray Mejlis member Ilmiy Umerov said to QHA.

Umerov has appealed to Bakhchisaray City Administration to hold a rally in Bakhchisaray Feb 19—the day when Chiygoz should be released, according the court decision.

“Representatives of FSB Centre for Fighting Extremism paid me a visit the same day I appealed to the Administration. They asked about the format of the planned event. Still the City Administration should give their answer in 10 days. I suppose that their answer will be “no”.

Akhtem Chiygoz, arrested Jan 29, is charged with organizing “mass disorder” which caused two deaths during a meeting Feb 26, 2014, when thousands of Crimean Tatars rallied at Crimean Parliament building, showing their support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity.

Criminal case was opened against Chiygoz. Supreme Court of Crimea Feb 6 dismissed his appeal. He will be detained till Feb 19.
