Having dispersed the action of Crimean Tatars on the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of 1944 Deportation held on May 17 in Simferopol, the occupiers showed their disrespect for the memory of the victims of the national tragedy, according to the statement of the director of Amnesty International Ukraine Oksana Pokalchuk.

“The de facto Russian authorities could not resist the temptation to show force against the Crimean Tatar activists. Having dispersed the peaceful action of commemoration, they not only once again neglected the right to freedom of peaceful assembly - as in Crimea it was already practically destroyed since the beginning of the occupation, but they also showed their frank disrespect to the memory of the victims of the deportation of 1944,” she noted.

QHA reported that in the evening of May 17 in the occupied Crimea, Crimean Tatars were massively arrested. Lawyer Edem Semedlyaev noted that Crimean Tatars were detained for allegedly unauthorized rally. All of them took part in the action "Light a spark in your heart", timed to the 74th anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people.
