Ukrainian television channels give less than 3% of airtime to the Crimean issue, the Deputy Minister of Information Policy of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova said in  commentary to QHA on February 20.

According to her, last year the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting conducted a monitoring of 10 major Ukrainian information channels. The research revealed that the TV reporters give 2.2% of airtime to the issue of the Crimea , and 8.6% of the airtime to the occupied parts of Donbas.

“These figures is not a diagnosis. In addition to this monitoring, the National Council will conduct a study of the Internet publications content. Obviously, the percentage of coverage related to these issues will be greater there,” Dzhaparova emphasized.

She noted that freedom of speech exists in Ukraine, which means that officials cannot dictate the media what to broadcast. At the same time, according to Dzhaparova, the Ministry of Information Policy is responsible for attracting the attention of Ukrainian media to the Crimea and the Donbas subject.
