The leader of the Crimean Tatar people and Commissioner of Ukrainian President on Crimean Tatar Affairs Mustafa Dzhemilev nominated for the 2016 Andrei Sakharov Prize ‘For Freedom of Thought,’ the Brussels correspondent of Radio Liberty Rikard Jozwiak reported on Twitter.

“Mustafa Dzhemilev is one of the candidates for the Sakharov Prize this year,” he wrote.

The award ‘For Freedom of Thought’ named after Russian scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov was established in 1988 by the European Parliament. The award ceremony takes place during the December plenary session.

Last year, Nadezhda Savchenko was nominated for the Prize, but she did not get into the top three.
