On May 27, in the National Library of the Ankara, Turkish Ukrainian Diaspora had a major celebration of the World Embroidered Shirt Day - international holiday, intended to preserve tradition of embroidered ethnic Ukrainian clothes.
Among high-level guests werer the Ambassador of Ukraine in Turkey Andriy Sybiga, the Chairman of the General office of the Crimean Tatar Association of Culture and Mutual Aid Mükremin Şahin, Turkish politicians and foreign diplomats attended this event.
The Embroidered Shirt Day is celebrated in Turkey for the first time in the history of the Ukrainian Diaspora residing in the Republic, Andriy Sybiga noted, expressing the hope that this tradition will become regular.
Within the framework of the event, a fashion show of various Ukrainian embroidered shirts from designer Oksana Polonets took place. Also the winners of the “My Embroidered Shirt” photo contest were awarded at the event. Honored artist of Ukraine Kristina Ohitva sang Ukrainian songs at the small concert. And the presentation of the documentary “The Nation Heritage” was held at the event.
Earlier QHA reported that the last May weekend the events devoted to City Day took place in Kyiv. Many residents of the Ukrainian capital came to the festivals wearing national embroidered shirts.
