The abduction of Asan Egiz is connected with the oppression of the Crimean Tatars for their active position regarding the situation in the Crimea. The delegate of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar people Asan Egiz commented on his abduction on May 23, as cited by the public organization Crimean Solidarity.

According to Egiz, the security forces in the Crimea are persecuting the entire Crimean Tatar people.

“This is due to the oppression of the Crimean Tatars, their active position, and the human rights activities of the representatives of our people. This is the persecution of the entire people because of its position on the situation in the Crimea," he said.

According to Egis, yesterday, May 23, in the afternoon, when he was driving on his car, he was stopped by a traffic police patrol. When he got out of the car to find out the reasons for stopping, traffic police officers demanded documents and he handed them over.

“At some point, I noticed that the traffic police officer was not interested in these documents, and was giving some information on the radio. After a while the bus of silvery color approached. The driver of this minivan in camouflage uniform called me, I refused to come, and at that moment several persons came to me from behind and dragged me into the car, twisted my hands, put a bag on my head and pushed me into the car,” he said.

For an hour, he was driven in a minibus and brought to the forest. The unknown people put Asan on the ground and removed the handcuffs. They asked if he knew how to count and told him to count till 200.

“After that, the unknown persons took off the bag and left in an unknown direction. I myself then went on the road to Aqmescit," he said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine protested in connection with the abduction and beating of the delegate of the Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar people Asan Egiz in the occupied Crimea.

The department is considering this fact as another attempt to intimidate the Crimean Tatar population, as well as a hybrid deportation of the Crimean Tatar people from the annexed peninsula.
