European Justice Commissioner Věra Jourová wrote a letter to Justice Minister of Russia Alexander Konovalov with a call to release Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov immediately.
"I would urge you to reconsider this case on humanitarian grounds and release Mr. Sentsov based on Russia's international commitments on human rights... Such a gesture would be a powerful signal to the world about Russia's commitment to abide international law and human rights," wrote Jourová.
She also urged Russian Federation to allow representatives of the Ukrainian government to visit Sentsov, particularly, the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Liudmyla Denisova and to create an independent medical team for ensuring an appropriate medical treatment of the political prisoner.
Previously, High Commissioner for human rights in Russia Tatiana Moskalkova said that Oleg Sentsov's state of health is satisfactory. According to her, she receives daily information on this issue from the leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia.
Earlier Liudmyla Denisova stated that Sentsov is at his breaking point and we do not have any official document on his health. As noted before, the circulatory system of Sentsov suffers from a lack of oxygen.
