At the 125th court hearing on the case against the Deputy Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Akhtem Chyihoz, who has been kept prisoner by the Crimean invaders for a second year in a pretrial detention center on a fabricated charge, the so-called "court" denied him the opportunity to see his mother, currently struggling with an incurable disease.

Lawyer Nikolai Polozov shared the information in his video message. He called the conduct of judges "a test of humanity for the Russian court and the Russian authorities as a whole."

“Not so long ago it became known that the mother of Ahtem Chiyhoz - Alie Abduraimovna Chiyhoz is seriously ill with an incurable disease. And Ahtem Chiyhoz, being in custody for almost two and a half years, did not have the opportunity to meet with her.”

According to the lawyer, relatives hid from Akhtem news about a serious illness of his mother.

“In recent days, it became known that medical conditions are rather disappointing. And the defense appealed to the court with a request to give Akhtem Chyihoz an opportunity to see her and, probably, to say goodbye."

Polozov noted that two petitions were filed by the defense - about a short meeting with the mother and, in view of the new circumstances, about changing the measure of restraint to Chiygoz for house arrest, but the court rejected them both.

“We can state that any kind of humanity in this process is totally absent, in fact the court deprives Akhtem Chyihoz of the opportunity to see his mother until the moment when something irreparable happens."

The lawyer added that the defense would file a challenge to the court.

Reference. Akhtem Chiygoz was detained in January 2015 in the Crimea, on accusations of organizing and participating in mass riots on February 26, 2014. Then, outside the building of the Supreme Council of Crimea, a rally was held in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine. He has been detained for more than two years in the remand prison.

Recently the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov also spoke about the illness of Akhtem Chiyhoz's mother.
