A mourning ceremony was held in Kerch dedicated to the victims of the explosion and shooting at the Kerch Polytechnic College.
The ceremony lasted more than the planned two hours due to the large number of participants. According to preliminary data, several thousand people came to say goodbye to the victims of the incident.
On the central square of Kerch, opposite the monument to Lenin, closed coffins were installed and next to them tables covered with burgundy cloth with photos of the dead. People brought flowers to the coffins.
At the ceremony, people said goodbye to 17 of the victims: Vladislav Verdibozhenko, Ruden Dzhuraev, Aleskei Lavrinovich, Anastasia and Svetlana Baklanova, Ksenia Boldina, Larisa Kudryavtseva, Lyudmila Ustenko, Aleksandr Moiseenko, Daria Chegerest, Danil Pilipemko, vladislav Lasarev, Ruslan Lysenko, Alina Kerova, Anna Zhuravleva, Roman Karymov, Sergey Stepanenko. Where were the bodies of three more victims was not reported at the time of news publication.
Two prayers were held on the square: An Orthodox memorial service and a Muslim service, since the dead were of different religions.
After the ceremony, the funeral procession went to the city cemetery of Kerch, where 16 people would be buried, and another one - in Hornostaivka (Leninsky district of Crimea).
In the annexed Crimea, state of emergency was introduced after the explosions and shootings at the Kerch Polytechnic College, which occurred on October 17, according to the message of the "Minister of Emergency Situations" of Crimea Sergey Shakhov, published on the website of the "ministry".
“For the authorities and forces of the territorial subsystem of the "Republic of Crimea" of the unified state system of prevention and liquidation of emergency situations, from 10:00 pm on 17.10.2018, the "emergency situation" of the regional level was introduced,” the messaget says.
This order was signed by the “head” of Crimea Sergey Aksyonov.
QHA reported that in the tragedy of October 17 at the Kerch Polytechnic College 20 people were killed and the suspect in the attack, about 50 more were injured. Seven victims remain in critical condition.
In connection with the incident a three-day mourning was declared in the Crimea.
