The official ceremony of signing an agreement on the transfer of the Yekaterinoslav Cathedral Mosque in the city of Dnieper to Muslim community was held on September 11. Adviser of the Governor of the Sumy Regional State Administration Boris Treigerman informed about the transfer on his Facebook page.
He reminded that the Crimean Tatars gave the city a sports school, where children would be trained, who currently attend trainings in the mosque's building.
The treaty was signed by the leader of the Crimean Tatar people, Presidential Commissioner of Ukraine on Affairs of the Crimean Tatar people Mustafa Dzhemilev and the mayor of the Dnipro Boris Filatov. The Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Akhtem Chiygoz also attended the event.
Earlier, Akhmet Chiygoz noted that the decree on the transfer of religious structures to local religious communities was signed in 1995, but so far the issue has not been resolved. For many years the mosque in the Dnipro was used as a children's sports school building. The Crimean Tatar community, with the help of the authorities of the Dnipro, plans to restore the original appearance of the mosque. It is planned to attract Turkish investors to reconstruct the new complex.
Thus, the former building of the Stalinvest complex will be equipped for the children's sports school, and the Crimean Tatar cultural center will arrange in the Cathedral mosque.
QHA reported that Mayor of the Dnipro Boris Filatov and the Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, signed a memorandum of cooperation on June 1 stating that the Yekaterinoslav Cathedral Mosque will be handed over to the Crimean Tatar people. The memorandum deals with the expansion of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, as well as the protection of the rights and interests of the Muslim community.
