KYIV (QHA) -

Today, on August 21, Muslims all over the world began to celebrate one of their greatest holidays - Qurban Bayram (Feast of the Sacrifice).

Crimean Tatars celebrate this holiday in the annexed Crimea and on the mainland of Ukraine. In Crimea, an additional day off is announced. Festive events are planned in Simferopol, Kerch, Sevastopol and other cities of the occupied peninsula.

In the capital of Ukraine, the festive prayer was held at 8:00 am. The Head of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Ayder Rustamov conducted the prayer, after which the festive sermon was delivered. The prayer took place in the building of the Association of Muslims of Ukraine.

Traditionally, at Qurban Bayram, Muslims perform a festive ritual of sacrificing an animal (sheep, goat or cow). This tradition goes back to the ancient history of how God stopped the prophet Ibrahim, not allowing him to sacrifice his son Ishmael, ordering him to stab the ram at the last moment.

August 23, the Kyiv park of the Expocenter of Ukraine will host a festive event in honor of the holiday Qurban Bayram.
