The Pope held a meeting with the heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states and international organizations accredited to the Holy See. The pontiff made a speech devoted to the results of the diplomatic activities of the Vatican, the main international events of the past year, as well as the challenges facing the world community on the threshold of 2016. During his speech the Pope drew special attention to the situation in Ukraine.

“Especially, may this Holy Year of Charity be an opportune time to finally end the conflict in the East of Ukraine. It is extremely important that international community, individual countries and humanitarian organizations offer various support to the country to overcome the crisis,” said the Pope.

After his speech, the Pope held a short meeting with Tetyana Izhevska, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Holy See. She thanked the Pope for his constant attention to our country, his prayers and blessings, and expressed the hope that the Ukrainians will soon be able to greet the pontiff in their country. Pope Francis assured the Ambassador that he ‘would always support Ukraine.’
