The energy company Sevastopolenergo published a schedule for power outages in April. According to the announcement, electricity in the city is to be cut off almost every day of the month. The reason for limiting the power supply is repair works.

Earlier, in October 2016, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted that the power bridge built from the Krasnodar Territory along the bottom of the Kerch Strait could not provide electricity to the annexed peninsula in full, and that the stable power supply to the Crimea requires building a gas pipeline from Russia as well as power plants.

Now the occupied Crimea is included in the list of regions of the Russian Federation with high risks of power supply disruption.

At the end of March 2017, one of the Crimean collaborators expressed confidence that in the future the occupied peninsula will cooperate in the energy sector with Ukraine, though "there are no energy ties" with it at the moment.
