The number of immigrants entering Germany has reached a record high of 2 million. 860 thousand of them have already left Germany for other countries, reports DW citing numbers released by Germany’s Federal Statistics Office on Monday.

“The year 2015 was marked by an unusually high number of immigrants entering Germany. A total of 1,14 million immigrants entered the country in 2015, a record high number of ‘pure immigration’ in the entire history of the Federal Republic of Germany,” reads the report released by the Federal Statistics Office.

The number of immigrants arriving in Germany rose by 49% in the space of one year, whereas the number of emigrants was only 12% higher than in 2013. All foreigners who crossed the German border were included in the report.

In early March, the European Statistics Office reported 1, 255 thousand people requesting asylum in the EU.
