Rospotrebnadzor (Russian sanitary authority) withheld from commerce a number of American wines containing harmful substances, the press-service agency reports.

- According to the expertise results, Gnarly Head Chardonnay wine contains high concentration of phthalates, while Gaiser Peak Merlot and Crane Lake «Moscato» wines contain phthalates and bifenazate pesticides in concentrations exceeding the established standards, the report says.

The press service states, bifenazate pesticide is used for grape growing as the acaricide with contact action and with a long residual activity to combat the herbivorous mites. According to the sanitary and toxicological indicator, phthalates belong to the 1st class of danger and they are capable of causing functional and further organic changes in the central and peripheral nervous system, the endocrine system, as well as cancer and problems with male and female infertility.
