Today, September 20, TWINNING project of cooperation between Ukrainian border guards and their EU counterparts has been launched in the building of the Administration of the State Border Guard Service (SBGS) of Ukraine.

The Head of the SBGS of Ukraine, Servatiuk Vasyl, said that the start of the project will establish a more substantial and effective work with the European colleagues.

“We actively cooperate with our European partners, actively implement a number of international projects and programs, as well as reform the system of training and human resources. We form a new image of border guards and continue a relentless fight against corruption.

According to the project, the European colleagues are to help monitor the state border, as well as control it. The border control system and the fight against crime at the border are supposed to be improved. Interpol will provide assistance in search for wanted persons.

The State Border Guard Service will be gradually approaching the EU standards and practices, in particular, in check for stolen vehicles.

Ukraine also plans to get assistance in monitoring the border with the Russian Federation.

The SBGS of Ukraine filed a request for this project to the EU back in 2012. Since 2016, the project will be implemented within 2 years, during which most European border guards will improve the Ukrainian SBGS according to EU standards.

The project budget is EUR1.3 million. It will be implemented by the SBGS of Ukraine jointly with the State Fiscal Service, the State Migration Service and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
